Conductor: Sarah Turner
Conductor and flutist, Sarah Turner is the conductor of the Intermezzo division of the Clarksville Youth String Orchestra Program, and loves directing young musicians. Sarah recently completed a Master of Music in instrumental conducting from Austin Peay State University, where she studied with Dr. Gregory Wolynec and began working with the Clarksville Youth String Orchestra Program under the leadership of Simone Parker.
Sarah has served as the conducting assistant of the Curb Youth Symphony and Philharmonia Orchestra in Nashville, Tennessee, where she conducted rehearsals and prepared the orchestra ensembles under the leadership of music director Carol Nies. This was an integral step in achieving her goal to direct youth orchestras and enrich the lives of young musicians. The seed was planted when Sarah served as student conductor in her high school band program and grew when she won a chair as flutist in the Curb Youth Symphony. This led her to complete a Bachelor of Science in music from Austin Peay State University and set her path for life service as a music educator and conductor.
Sarah's passion for the development of young musicians is demonstrated through her service as a music teacher in the Tennessee public school system, the creation of a violin class in her school, direction of various children's choruses, and her work with the Clarksville Youth String Orchestra. Future plans include summer and postgraduate intensive conducting programs and continuing to foster the growth of string programs throughout the region.
