Individual and Group Alexander Technique Sessions
The Alexander Technique may be studied in private sessions, with a partner, or in small groups. Students will discover the principles of the Alexander Technique as applied to everyday life and performance. Explorations in Body Mapping and the techniques developed by F.M. Alexander will aid in obtaining an accurate and heightened kinesthetic sense. Further, students will gain new perspectives on how to engage in daily activities without strain or injury; thereby, enhancing all activities. Anyone may take the lessons to gain a greater somatic awareness.
General Learning Objectives:
Discuss the principles that are the foundation of the Alexander Technique.
Identify and explore human anatomical features and structures, with a focus on experiential anatomy learning, visual aids and techniques from Body Mapping.
Apply the principles of the Alexander Technique to daily activities and performance work.
Track increased physical awareness and well-being through application of the principles to everyday life and performance work.
Observe and reflect upon personal habits that may interfere with optimal function.
Students should wear loose and comfortable clothing that allows for unencumbered movement. We will do some light physical activities that may require students to move freely.

When learning the Alexander Technique, creating an atmosphere of mutual respect and attentiveness for each individual process is vital. Trustworthy relationships are built by being encouraging and supportive toward one another. The Alexander Technique work is very personal and students can always rely on the confidentiality of the instructor. Teaching and Physical Touch
The study of the Alexander Technique is an educational process, which improves the general level of functioning of the individual. At no time does the instructor make medical diagnoses or prescribe medical remedies.
An Alexander Technique teacher uses a combination of verbal explanations and gentle touch to enable students to experience themselves released, connected and supported. The use of hands differs in intent, character and result from that of practitioners of “bodywork” or massage. Alexander Technique teachers use their hands to teach - but do not treat – and to demonstrate directly a quality of easy and unforced movement.
This involves a certain amount of physical contact between the instructor and the student and between students. If a student is uncomfortable with physical contact or the quality of touch at any time, for any reason, it is their responsibility to inform the instructor immediately. Denying physical contact will under no circumstances affect the student’s grade or ability to learn the Alexander Technique.
Activities during Lessons:
I always look for different ways to enhance student motivation and participation. Students are welcome to bring instruments, tools or any other materials of interest to discuss the principles of the Alexander Technique in activity.
